Greetings & Salutations
Hello All. My name is Bronwyn. I am writing a term paper in folk lore on a story I grew up hearing from my father. I am looking for gray hairs or children of gray hairs who were around when the land of the sun was started. I am not sure on the date of the events but it has to do with a man by the Name of Thomas ap Thomas Thorhime Krackens Bane (I am really not sure on the spelling) and a war hammer named fist of god. If you know any of the following lords, My father says that they were around or in charge at the time and may know the story I am looking to research. And if you know any SCA Bards who know of the "no shit there I was stories" who might know this stuff. Please please please if you can help me with this I am in desperate spot with this.

Cross posted from my College's list...
The SCA 2010 Census is now LIVE!
The SCA is us, you and me doing what we do. But who are we, what do we do, and how can we support each other to make the SCA the type of organization we can be proud of?
The SCA 2010 Census committee has been asked by the Board of Directors to develop a census-level survey that will help us to address key issues facing the SCA. These issues affect our everyday experience in the SCA; from "pay for participation" issues and award structures to quantitative, qualitative, motivational, and behavioral demographics such as age, gender, activities and interest areas, and reasons for joining, remaining in, and leaving the SCA.
Because this is a "census-level" survey, we are attempting to reach each and every SCA participant, regardless of whether or not they are paid members or are currently active. Everyone's voice is important to the success of this project.
This information will help us, as an organization, move forward into the next decade, to identify, address and work on current issues and gain a better, deeper understanding into what makes the SCA what it is today. Your responses to these questions will also help us create a plan for making the
SCA better organization in the future. The only way we can understand what is important is by hearing from you.
The survey is completely anonymous, you will never be asked for information that will identify you.
The SCA 2010 Census Survey is available here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/%20s/SCA2010Census
The Survey will remain open until December 1st. Once the data collection is completed, the results of this survey will be made available on the SCA 2010 Census website. All data that is collected or published will remain completely anonymous and will not be sold or shared beyond this survey's
If you would like to learn more about the SCA 2010 Census, if you have questions or ideas about the project, please contact the committee at scacensus2010@ sca.org
Please take the time to fill out the survey. The voices of each and every participant in the SCA whether you are currently active or not, will help us to better understand the SCA and enable us to grow and flourish as an organization.

Exhibition of Medieval Scientific Invention - August 2011
||Do you love science? Have you been looking for a forum to display what you have learned about the sciences of the middle ages? Many of the inventions we take for granted as modern were really invented before or during the middle ages! Yes, even the flushing toilet was invented in 1596 and installed in the residence of Queen Elizabeth I. |
In August of 2011 the Barony of Tir Ysgithr in Atenveldt will host an Exhibition of Medieval Scientific Invention. This will be a non-judged event where participants will be able to display the inventions and sciences of the Middle Ages that interest them.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
· A website of links and references www.the-orb.net/encyclop/culture/scitech/index.html
· Concrete / architecture / city planning
· Astronomy/view of the universe/planet knowledge (psst… the earth is round.)
· Navigational tools / boats
· Plumbing / toilets /baths etc
· Medicine / plastic surgery (yes) / prosthetics
· Labor saving devices / agricultural tools and methods
· Batteries / clocks / automatons / celestial computers / Complex locks
· Printing press / movable type
· Weaving / spinning technologies / dye technologies / sericulture
· Machines of war / armor and weapon technologies / metal refining
. Form a debate team to argue the 2 sides of a theory such as flat vs round earth
and so much more!
Get started now. In one year we will gather to share what we’ve all learned.

A&S Classes at Southern Crusades XII (Atenveldt)
Good Gentles All,
It is now four months until Southern Crusades
, which is a third of a year. That seems a long time, but it will pass before we know how. It is, therefore, time to start thinking about what class you can teach at the Southern Crusades XII. You know that thing you do, which people are always asking you how it's done? You could teach a class in it. You know that thing people are always asking you to do for them? You can teach a class in that, too. That thing that you're sitting there, thinking now, "Should I teach a class in that?" The answer is yes.
The A&S sessions will run on Friday, the 12th of November 2010, and Saturday, the 13th of November. When you write to let me know what you'll be teaching, please also let me know if you prefer to teach on Friday or Saturday; during the morning or afternoon.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and contribution to the continuance of knowledge in this current Age of Chivalry!

Words from TRM Eduard and Asa of Atenveldt about Estrella War
Please feel free to re-post the following:
Greetings from Eduard and Asa, King and Queen of the glorious lands of Atenveldt.
Estrella War. Two words that conjure up thoughts of that one of the great truths of The Society; that we are all family. Estrella War has been, for so many people around the Knowne World, where we meet for the first time, friendships are forever formed, and We pick-up previous conversations from years past as if they had never stopped. It is also for Our Society the singular event where we know that the vast majority of our SCA family will be journeying from all over to visit. It is Our Family Reunion. For many in the SCA no other event in the entirety of the Knowne World brings so much excitement or defines what the SCA is all about!
Her Majesty and I are aware that the world outside the SCA has been dark for many people. We are also very aware that it has been very difficult economically for many to Pre-register before the January 17th deadline. Since Estrella War is one place we can all come together as a Society, no a FAMILY, Her Majesty and I have asked the Autocrats for Estrella War to extend the deadline to January 25th in order to allow everyone the opportunity to save money by Pre-registering for the war.
In case you were needing some other reasons to Pre-register here are some of the great benefits to doing so:
1. SAVE $20: The HIGHEST price you pay to Pre-register an Adult is $20 LESS than you pay at the gate for an adult, regardless of the day you arrive (ADULT MEMBER: Pre-reg=$65, Gate=$85, NON-MEMBER: Pre-register =$75, Gate=$95).
2. Pre-registered people can get in a day earlier than people who pay at the gate (At 8:00AM, Monday, February 8, 2010, instead of Tuesday, February 9, 2010). So you pay LESS, but get in earlier!
3. Pre-registrations can be transferred to someone else if you can't go at the last minute. So in the unfortunate event that your plans change, you can sell the Pre-registration to someone who is going, and they can use it.
4. Front gate only accepts cash and traveler's checks, but you can Pre-register with a credit card!!
5. The entrance line for Pre-registration is generally shorter, and always moves faster than the General Admission line. So you can get onsite and get your camp setup sooner when you arrive.
See all this information and the get the link to Pre-register at:http://tinyurl.com/estrellaprereg
or go directly to Pre-register at ACCEPS (http://tinyurl.com/accepspreregdirect
Having difficulty paying the full amount at this time? We have an answer for you!
Though this is not official Estrella War Policy it should be known that the war has a very liberal Pre-registration policy. If you can't pay the full adult price now you can make a deposit of sorts by Pre-registering as a Youth ($20) and they will let you pay the balance at the gate. Doing this will enable you to still get the Pre-registration rate.
Troll has informed me that they are already prepared for this at the gate. If you are an adult who Pre-registered as a Youth, to help speed up the process when you arrive at Gate, go straight to the cash registers and tell them there that you need to pay for a Youth to Adult upgrade. After you pay the difference take the receipt they give you and go get in line to pick up your Pre-registration packet.
We hope this information assists you in your plans to coming to Estrella War and we look forward to seeing all of Our Family there,

Newcomer Forum at Collegium
Newcomer Forum at Collegium!
Everyone is invited! This is not a lecture class, this is an informal open forum. I have the room for 2 hours on Sunday morning, so please feel free to drop in at any time during the class, and to come and go as you like.
The main purpose of this forum is to help orient newcomers to the society, and help you get involved in all those things you see and hear about. Bring your questions and concerns, no matter how big, small, odd or obscure. Bring your ideas for projects and your enthusiasm!
I'd also like to extend a special invitation to all current, former and future Chatelaines/Hospitallers/Gold Keys and their deputies to join us. One of my goals is to discover how we can better serve our newcomers, while sharing resources and ideas with each other as well. It will also give us a chance to meet and support each other.
So whether you've been in the SCA for 4 days or 4 decades, please consider dropping by the Newcomer Forum at Kingdom Collegium!
No class fees, no class limits, open door!

Clarification of How to Send in your Pre-Reg for entries in the A&S Competition
Currently there are very few people that have 1)pre-reg'd for their entries in the Kingdom A&S on October 4th and 2)the Deadline is for things to be postmarked by Sept 4th.
On another list we were discussing this and one thing that was not as clear as it could have been is that you can email the information directly to the Kingdom A&S office without the form but you need to fill in *all* of the information from the form. See previous email links to get to the form.
So, if you have any questions please contact the Kingdom A&S office or respond on the list. We just want to make sure that everyone has a chance to enter before the deadline.

Please excuse a shameless plug for those interested, as the SCA is filled with folks that enjoy reading books...http://community.livejournal.com/historybookclub/
I made a new LJ community for those of us who like to read and make discussions on historical non-fiction and historical fantasy books - especially books in period for the SCA - as I could not find an appropriate community to otherwise join for such a thing.
If you are interested, please join and share your comments about your favority history books!

War Practices Thank Yous and Upcoming War Practices
First, I want to state a heart felt Huzzah to the autocrats of the
Phoenix War Practice for a great site, with nice grass; to the War
Kitchen for wonderful soup for the fighters; the waterbearers and
chiurgeons for taking such good care of us and to Sundragon for
providing tent space for court and a very good event. Huzzah!
Second, I want to commend each and every person who was on the fields
yesterday, whether it be hard suit, rapier or archery. The looks on
all of the faces while at closing court were that mixture of
exhaustion, adrenaline and mirth that can only be seen after a hard
day of fighting. Looking to my right at my husband Ivan and to my
left to Baron Thomas as they (and myself) struggled to stand up during
court made me realize that a good day was had by all. The warriors of
But something was missing that made the day not so bright. Mayhaps it
was the threatening weather around the kingdom, maybe it was the
allure of fantasy worlds powered by joysticks and keyboards or maybe
it was the plague of sickness that kept many of His Majesty Eduard's
army at home. What ever the reason, our numbers were small and that
is a sad state to be in this few weeks before war.
It is now that I entreat you Atenveldt to shake the rust off of your
armor, clean up your blades and check the fletchings on your arrows to
show Their Royal Majesty's Eduard and Asa that the Army of Atenveldt
outshines even the Sun! Atenveldt is lucky that our weather is fair
and we can fight whenever we please in our land. Our enemies fight in
barns and schoolhouses to attempt to prepare for the War of Heroes and
the War of Valor!
Come out all to the fields of Florence this Sunday and the parks of
Tucson the following Sunday. Bring your friends, carpool for good days
of fighting in weather that is only better in Vallhalla!
See you on the field.
